Thanks goes out to Mrs. Marling's 1st Grade Class at Fairmount Elementary! They had us come and talk to the class about what we do and we brought kittens for show and tell. The kids held a supply drive for us and today we went back with a dog for show and tell and collected the items. The students had a goal of collecting 24 items and they collected 67! That'll make a lot of happy dogs and cats. While we were there today, we had the kids make pipe-cleaner spiders for the cats to play with. Some kids got creative and made other shapes as well. The cats are already having a ball flipping the "spiders" in the air and acting like real predators. They are hoping to have us come back next year and we're looking forward to it!
This weekend at PetSmart we had 3 past adoptors stop in with donations! Special thanks to Sue, Angela and Jen for buying all that great stuff for us!
Nine Junior Girl Scouts from troop 4602 have completed all requirements needed to earn their Girl Scout Bronze Award. The Bronze Award is the highest award a Junior Scout can receive. For their Bronze Award service project, the 5th grade Junior Scouts from Dardenne Elementary School, made fleece blankets to donate to the Heartland Humane Society. Angie Tollefson, President of the Heartland Humane Society said, “We were overwhelmed by the generosity of the Girl Scouts of Troop 4602. These blankets will help enhance the lives of hundreds of pets while they wait for their forever homes. Our volunteers really appreciate the time and effort that they put into making them.”
The girls of Troop 4602 were presented with certificates and award pins by Jennifer Thomas, Neighborhood 5 Chairperson and Liz Mainord, Membership Development Manager with the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri at the April 15th District 14, Neighborhood 5 Leader Meeting. The girls also presented the 122 blankets that they made to Juli Stevens, a representative for Tollefson who was unable to attend the awards ceremony. Bronze Award recipients are: Alyssa Drew, Cassandra Jordan, Emily Reedy, Jaime Ketterer, Stephanie Laws, Jasmine Amerin, Kendall Douglas, Rebekah Blatt, and Taylor Hausman. Their leader is Carol Robison.

Wow! Thanks go out to the kids at Warren Elementary School in Cottleville! They raised $828.19 for Murphy. The student council sponsored two spirit days, one was a dress crazy day, the other was wear your favorite team's logo and the kids had to pay $1 to participate. They also got to bring in other donations as well. Great job guys! Between their help and the help of the Girl Scouts with our Maggie Moo's fundraiser, we've just about covered the cost of Murphy's surgery!
Murphy couldn't be there in person to collect the money, so my Heartland dog Lexi filled in. She was happy to be the center of attention and was such a good girl! She got to show off her few basic obedience commands and got petted by each and every kid!
We would like to thank the Delmonte Corporation for delivering a semi-truck of treats to share with St. Louis area rescue groups! We were able to cram a minivan full of treats. That should keep our dogs happy for a couple of months! Congratulations on 100 years of MilkBones! www.milkbone.com
Thanks to two scouts from Troop 984 for volunteering an afternoon with us to run a supply drive. They handed out flyers and collected an overflowing shopping cart full of supplies for us! We had 10 containers of scoopable litter - a record! Thank You!
